Katie Butler, MPH

Katie Butler, B.S., MPHKatie Butler is an environmental epidemiologist by training and a risk assessor by practice. Ms. Butler applies her interdisciplinary background in exposure assessment, risk assessment, toxicology, epidemiology and statistics to a variety of projects worldwide. At McDaniel Lambert, Ms. Butler's human health risk assessment responsibilities include preparing work plans, assessing data gaps, and evaluating potential exposure pathways for sites contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons, chlorinated solvents, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls, pesticides, and metals. She has experience modeling vapor intrusion pathways, and developing toxicity criteria for emerging contaminants such as perfluorocarbons.

During her graduate studies, Ms. Butler evaluated the potential health impacts of dioxin-contaminated fish in the Great Lakes region. In addition to risk assessments, past projects include characterizing silica dust exposure among Zambian copper miners, preparing material safety data sheets, and evaluating the toxicity of impurities and degradation products for a major pharmaceutical company.

Ms. Butler received a B.S. in Environmental Sciences with a minor in Latin American Studies from the University of Notre Dame, and a Masters in Public Health with a specialization in occupational and environmental epidemiology from the University of Michigan. She is fluent in Spanish.
